Razer Blade 14: A Revolutionary Laptop?

The Razer blade 14 has received universally good reviews. It is small, had a great trackpad, keyboard, and display, while packing the performance of much larger gaming laptops. While many would simply disregard the Blade 14 as simply a good laptop for gaming or creative work, the Blade 14 has made a huge advancement for the gaming ultrabook market by cutting out many of the compromises many previous gaming “ultrabooks” have had.

The Razer Blade 14 includes all the features characteristic of most razer laptops: a good keyboard, trackpad, and speakers as well as a high price. More importantly, however, it manages to keep all these great features in such a thin footprint while packing a lot of performance. The Blade 14 packs the top of the line Ryzen 9 5900HX which puts it at the forefront of gaming laptop performance, and removes any possible CPU bottlenecks that this laptop would run into. The Blade 14 also includes up to an RTX 3080 which can easily handle the GPU performance necessary to make any game run well and look good on the laptop’s 1440p, 165hz screen. However, the Blade 14 falls short in its RAM choices because it only offers 16GB versions the laptop, rather than the 32GB or more needed for many creative applications. Overall, the Blade 14 packs all the necessary performance of a capable gaming laptop, while stopping short of the necessary features for many creators.

The Blade 14 packs insane performance into a tiny 14 inch body that is only .66 inches thick and maintains small bezels. The design of the Blade 14 is thin and sleek, making it easy to transport and very visually appealing. Since Razer packs such good performance into such a small body, one would expect them to skimp out on thermals or battery life. However, with Razer’s estimated 12 hours of battery life, and a cooling design that does not inhibit performance the Blade 14 combines all the features of the highest end gaming laptops and the most premium Ultrabook in a nearly flawless manner. The biggest criticism of the Blade 14 is the price (at least $1800), but the Blade 14 is a premium device, so the cost is justified. While the Razer Blade 14 is not a perfect device, it effectively bridges the gap between high end gaming laptops and ultraportables, making a future where design sacrifices do not have to be made in the name of performance quite visible.
